Uric Acid
A Uric Acid test measures the amount of uric acid present in your blood or urine. Uric acid is a waste product created when the body breaks down purines—natural substances found in your body cells and in certain foods like red meat, organ meats, sardines, and beer.
Most uric acid dissolves in the blood, travels to the kidneys, and leaves the body through urine. However, if the body produces too much or the kidneys are not filtering enough out, levels can rise significantly. This condition is known as hyperuricemia.
