Peripheral Smear
A Peripheral Smear is a vital diagnostic tool that provides a snapshot of your blood health, going far beyond the basic numbers of a standard blood count. By examining a thin layer of blood under a microscope, a pathologist can analyse the morphology (size, shape, and structure) of your red cells, white cells, and platelets. This is exceptionally helpful for identifying specific types of anemia, detecting blood cancers like leukemia, spotting blood-borne parasites (such as malaria), and uncovering hidden bone marrow disorders. It essentially acts as a visual confirmation of what is happening in your bloodstream, allowing for a much more precise diagnosis than automated machines can provide alone.
