How Malaria Antigen Testing Works
The Malaria Profile is a rapid antigen test used to detect malaria infection in the blood. Instead of relying only on microscopic examination, this test looks for specific proteins released by the malaria parasite HRP-2, linked to P. falciparum and pLDH, linked to P. vivax and other species. Because of this, the profile is able to indicate not just whether malaria is present, but which type of parasite is responsible.
This test is generally recommended when symptoms such as high fever, chills or body ache are experienced, since these signs can overlap with other infections. A quick and accurate result allows the correct treatment to be started sooner, which lowers the risk of complications.
