Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV) I & II IgG Antibody
The Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV) 1 an 2 IgG Antibody Test is a blood test used to determine whether you have been exposed to or infected with Herpes Simplex Virus Type 1 (HSV-1) and/or Type 2 (HSV-2).
HSV-1: Primarily responsible for oral herpes, which causes cold sores or fever blisters around the mouth. However, it can also cause genital herpes through oral-genital contact.
HSV-2: The primary cause of genital herpes, a sexually transmitted infection (STI) that causes painful blisters or sores in the genital or anal region.
IgG Antibodies: These are long-term antibodies produced by your immune system after exposure to the virus. They usually become detectable in the blood a few weeks to a few months after the initial infection and remain in your system for life.
