Dehydroepiandrosterone Sulphate (DHEA-S)

A DHEA-Sulfate (DHEA-S) Test measures the level of dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate in your blood. DHEA-S is a male sex hormone (androgen) that is present in both men and women. It plays a critical role because your body converts it into more potent male and female hormones, like testosterone and estrogen.

Because DHEA-S is almost exclusively produced by your adrenal glands (the small triangle-shaped glands sitting right on top of your kidneys), doctors use this specific test as a shortcut to check how well your adrenal glands are working.
