A Biopsy - Small Specimen is a diagnostic procedure involving the removal of a minimal amount of tissue for detailed microscopic examination. This test is typically performed when a clinician identifies an abnormal area—such as a lesion, polyp, or suspicious mass—that requires definitive characterization. These small specimens generally include punch biopsies (common in dermatology), core needle biopsies (used for breast or prostate tissue), or endoscopic snip biopsies taken from the gastrointestinal, endometrium or respiratory tract during a procedure.
