Apolipoprotein A1 (Apo A)

The Apolipoprotein A1 (Apo A1) Test measures the primary protein component of High-Density Lipoprotein (HDL), commonly known as good cholesterol. While an HDL test measures the amount of cholesterol carried, the Apo A1 test measures the actual protein shuttles that transport that cholesterol away from your arteries and back to the liver for disposal.

Many clinicians prefer the Apo B and Apo A1 ratio over traditional cholesterol ratios because it provides a more accurate balance between the particles that clog arteries and the ones that clean them. This makes the Apo A1 test a superior tool for predicting long-term heart health and preventing early-onset cardiovascular events.
