Sexually Transmitted Disease (STDs) Package
This comprehensive STDs Package checks your blood for the presence of specific antibodies or antigens related to several common STIs. It is typically ordered for routine screenings, prenatal care, or to evaluate active or past exposure to these infections.
Chlamydia Trachomatis IgG Antibodies: Checks for long-term or past exposure to Chlamydia, one of the most common bacterial STIs. The presence of IgG antibodies indicates that your body has mounted an immune response to a prior or chronic infection.
HIV I & II Screening: Detects antibodies and/or antigens for both HIV-1 (the most common strain globally) and HIV-2 (prevalent mainly in West Africa). This is a standard screening test for the Human Immunodeficiency Virus.
HSV IgG (Herpes Simplex Virus): Looks for type-specific IgG antibodies to HSV-1 (usually associated with oral herpes/cold sores) and HSV-2 (usually associated with genital herpes). IgG indicates a past or chronic infection, as the herpes virus stays in the body permanently.
HSV IgM (Herpes Simplex Virus): Detects IgM antibodies, which usually rise early in an infection. This is sometimes used to help detect a recent or acute herpes outbreak, though it is less specific than IgG.
VDRL / RPR (Syphilis Screening): The Venereal Disease Research Laboratory (VDRL) and Rapid Plasma Reagin (RPR) are non-treponemal screening tests used to detect antibodies produced in response to a Syphilis infection.
TPHA (Syphilis Confirmation): The Treponema pallidum Hemagglutination Assay is a highly specific test used to confirm a positive VDRL/RPR result by looking directly for antibodies against the specific bacteria that causes Syphilis.
