Coagulation Profile

A Coagulation Profile is a comprehensive screening panel designed to evaluate how effectively your blood clots. Whether preparing for surgery or investigating unusual bruising, this package analyzes the delicate balance between liquid blood and the solid plugs required to stop bleeding.

The profile consists of four essential markers.

PT/INR (Prothrombin Time): This test measures the extrinsic pathway of coagulation. It is the gold standard for monitoring patients on blood-thinning medications like Warfarin and assessing liver function, as the liver produces the necessary proteins for this process.

APTT (Activated Partial Thromboplastin Time): This evaluates the intrinsic pathway. It helps identify clotting factor deficiencies (like Hemophilia) or monitors the effectiveness of heparin therapy.

Fibrinogen: As the precursor to fibrin, this protein acts as the glue of a blood clot. This test ensures you have enough raw material to build a stable mesh over a wound.

Platelet Count: Platelets are the first responders. This count determines if you have enough physical cells to form the initial plug at an injury site before the chemical clotting factors take over.
